Celebrating the successful completion of our project

We are thrilled to announce the successful completion of our project titled “Gaining Insight and Know-How from Norway on CCS and CCU Solutions for Waste Thermal Plant Incinerator in Krakow.” This project is supported by the Fund for Bilateral Relations within EEA and Norway Grants 2014 – 2021.

This initiative aimed to explore and implement innovative ways to capture, transport, and sequester CO2 emissions from Krakow’s Thermal Waste Treatment Plant, significantly minimizing its environmental footprint. By leveraging the combined expertise of Vinco Innovation and CO2 Management, Krakow Communal Holding has taken a step towards enhancing operational practices, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and fostering a cleaner, more sustainable future for our community.

Achieving Our Objectives

The CCS4Krakow project was built around four key objectives, each of which was successfully met, paving the way for significant advancements in CO2 management and sustainable practices.

1. Technical Analysis for Emissions Reduction

Our first goal was to explore and identify technical solutions to substantially reduce CO2 emissions from the Krakow waste incineration plant. Through rigorous technical analysis, we evaluated various carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies, ultimately identifying the most efficient and feasible options for the plant.

2. Understanding Legal, Economic, and Organizational Challenges

Implementing CCS solutions involves navigating a complex landscape of legal, economic, and organizational factors. Throughout the project, we gained profound insights into these challenges, allowing us to address them head-on and optimize the plant’s approach. By understanding the regulatory environment and economic implications, they are now better equipped to move forward with confidence in their CCS initiatives.

3. ESG Reporting

As part of KHK’s commitment to sustainability and accountability, we developed an initial version of the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) reporting for the waste incineration plant. This reporting framework sets the stage for ongoing sustainable practices, ensuring transparency and accountability in their operations. It marks the beginning of a new era of responsible management and environmental stewardship for the plant.

4. Knowledge Exchange and Collaboration

The CCS4Krakow project facilitated a vibrant exchange of insights and ideas through two pivotal events. The first event, held in Bergen at the project’s inception, and the second, held in Krakow at its culmination, brought together stakeholders from both countries. These events provided a platform for sharing experiences, discussing cutting-edge findings, and exploring future collaboration opportunities. The knowledge exchanged during these events has been invaluable in shaping the project’s success and will continue to inspire ongoing collaboration.

A Bright Future Ahead

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the partners, stakeholders, and team members who contributed to the project’s success. Your dedication, expertise, and collaboration have been instrumental in achieving our objectives and setting the stage for future advancements in CO2 management and sustainable practices.

As we look to the future, all partners remain committed to driving innovation, reducing emissions, and fostering a sustainable environment for generations to come. Stay tuned for more updates on our ongoing efforts and future projects aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and operational excellence.

Thank you for your continued support!
